FVREE - Free from Family Violence

Naming, branding, campaign & communications design

For close to 30 years, EDVOS has been the lead specialist family violence service for eastern Melbourne. The long standing name EDVOS (Eastern Domestic Violence Outreach Service), no longer accurately reflected the organisation’s expanded programs and services. They sought a new name and brand which clearly communicated what they do, and what they stand for.

Our efforts on FVREE earned us two 2023 Melbourne Design Awards, a Gold for Graphic Design and a Silver for Better Future and two 2024 Australian Design Awards, a Gold for Graphic Design and a Silver for Better Future.

A creative partnership from start to finish, we worked closely and collaboratively to uncover a new name and tagline that’s bold and distinctive, and which accurately positions the organisation as leaders and changemakers working across the family violence continuum.

The name FVREE is a wordplay that combines the commonly used family violence acronym ‘FV’ with the word ‘FREE’. The tagline “Free from Family Violence” contextualises the name FVREE and together they create a symbol of hope for victim survivors, while communicating the organisations vision and ambition for a community (and world) free from family violence.

The new name and tagline inspired a strong, purpose-driven brand identity and a powerful visual and verbal communications platform.

Following the new name and brand launch in December 2022, our collaboration continues with FVREE to help activate the new brand for maximum effect and impact over 2023 and into the future.

Thirst showed a deep yearning to creatively understand our work and purpose. They always took the time to ask the right questions about family violence and then learn and listen to provide creative options to land on FVREE as our new name and brand. This was evident in the brand options/solutions provided to us, which we were very much appreciative of. We’re incredibly proud of our new brand and believe it will help our organisation go to the next level.
